Book Illustration

A selection of work I have made for book illustration.

‘Maria, Artist Scientist & Adventurer’ by Bethany Rose Gale

‘The Snow Queen’ by Hans Christian Andersen, Illustrated by Bethany Rose Gale

For this book I was asked to fully illustrate it in black and white.

I am passionate about how visual media can make the everyday more enjoyable for all. Pictures can make learning and reading more accessible to children as well as those with special educational needs. Adding Illustrations to books adds to their value and their reach.

I give every stage of the development proses the attention to detail it deserves. Here is a gallery showing some of my working process.

Storyboards. Simple sketches to show page layout plans alongside words.

I make sure I put effort into character development. Bringing characters to life is a important part to get right in a book illustration project. It is important to me the author is happy before I continue creating the illustrations.

I create more detailed visuals to follow as I make my illustrations, and so my client knows what they can expect to reseive from me.

My background in design means I can typeset the book myself if needed as well as design page layouts.

I know how to prepare the files for printers by adding, trim marks and working to bleed space.
